Reproduction EvaluationsEquine Services is fully equipped to perform various levels of fertility evaluations on both the mare and the stallion.
Mare Examinations
Mare examinations are conducted with assistance from our contracted veterinarian and include a rectal examination and ultrasound, blood and hormone assays, and uterine culture and biopsy. From the results, Equine Services can determine the breeding soundness of the mare and establish any necessary treatment protocols for mares having difficulty conceiving.
Stallion Examination
Stallion evaluations are also performed with assistance from our contracted veterinarian. The tests conducted will provide a comprehensive profile of each stallion. Complete blood panels and various cultures are performed to scan for infections and systemic deficiencies or excesses. Semen is evaluated for concentration, morphology, motility, number of spermatozoa and pH. Semen extender testing is also available to determine the best product for preserving the semen for immediate use or chilled transport. Test freezing is available to determine if your stallion is a good candidate for frozen semen.
